The Natural Reserve System (NRS) currently consists of 39 reserves including over 750,000 acres of a variety of eco regions in California. The NRS was first established in 1965 as a network of natural areas that could be used for academic purposes without human interference. No other university-operated network of field sites in the world can match the size, scope, and ecological diversity of the NRS.
